What do we offer?

Strength and Conditioning

We offer training plans that include an in-person testing session and a 6-week, 8-week, or 12-week comprehensive training spreadsheet. The spreadsheet includes 6+ exercises that have been periodised by an accredited exercise scientist to maximise strength gains.

Our strength testing sessions include educational elements for you to learn proper form and progressions for complex movements and climbing-specific exercises like hangboarding, deadlifting and bench press to maximise your strength program. If it's your first time working with Quartz, select the “First time customer” add-on at checkout so the coach can teach you the safest and most effective movement patterns for more complex exercises.

Movement Optimisation

We teach movement patterns tailored to your climbing style and personal objectives. Our sessions are personalised to accommodate your goals in bouldering, lead climbing, competitive climbing, and general climbing improvement.

We provide actionable advice after your movement sessions to help you improve and master your technique in the future, allowing you to make the most of your time with the coach.

Comprehensive Packages

We offer packages that combine various session types to save you time and money by providing comprehensive education on movement and training principles. These Packages are designed to utilise different training phases for greater training specificity to fast-track your goals.

Our packages include strength education, training programs, and movement optimisation sessions to help you achieve your goals. By taking a holistic approach, we can identify and address movement inefficiencies and physical weaknesses, and utilise overlapping modalities to ensure improvement in all areas of your climbing.

Meet the Coach

Hey there, I’m super glad you’ve taken the time to look through my website and shown interest in my coaching services! My name is Angus and I’m a qualified sport/exercise scientist who’s coached competitive and recreational climbers for many years. I have a passion for passing down scientific and anecdotal advice to help people achieve their climbing goals. My mission is to offer a simple and affordable platform to make it as easy as possible for you to get the results you’re looking for.

Climbing is an incredibly important part of my life so I understand that by booking some sessions, you’re entrusting me with something very personal and significant to you. One of the reasons I love this sport so much is sharing the elation when witnessing the success of others in the community, and for this reason alone, I am committed to offering the most personalised and understanding coaching service possible.

My personal climbing experience extends back to my teenage years. I began climbing at Bayside Rock and quickly became obsessed with the physical aspects of the sport due to my background in callisthenics and weight training. It took a while, but I slowly learned that there was much more to climbing than physical strength which sent me down a path of constant analysis and research. Since then, I’ve made the podium at multiple local competitions, climbed outdoor grades up to v12 and made 2 appearances at open nationals. These diverse experiences allow for a greater understanding of individuality in climbing and a broader understanding of the diverse demands of the sport.

Over the years, I’ve coached medal-winning state to national athletes competing in bouldering and lead climbing. My approach to coaching high-level athletes trickles down to all climbers I work with. My goal is to equip you with the knowledge to tackle unique challenges, setting you up for continuous success even after we part ways. Taking this approach means that my clients can easily identify areas for improvement and implement the teachings from our sessions together to achieve the best possible results.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading and I hope you’re considering kickstarting your training journey with Quartz Climbing!
